I'm the absolute master of being knocked down and getting up again!
I often wondered if that was just me that felt as if there was set back after set back but the more books I read, the more I realise that nobody (or very few) people were successful straight off and maintained their success - some of the biggest and best have had many highs and lows.
For a long time designing websites was something I did in my "spare time" when I was working as an Ecommerce & Digital Marketing consultant - it was the antidote for me to working in very horrible toxic businesses and I always felt blessed that I had a creative outlet and got paid for something I enjoyed.
Then suddenly exactly two years ago it all came to a complete stop - the consultancy position and the web design and for the life of me I couldn't work out why.
At the age of 50 for the first time since I was 17 I didn't have any work - either the sort that paid my bills or my web design.
I call this downtime my "busy doing nothing" time because I undertook a whole host of free training and free challenges to grow my knowledge and my contacts.
Then I did a fabulous free moodboard challenge by the incredible Sarah Masci at Brackenhouse branding and realised that my brand did not align to who I was. I had changed it a few months previously (when I was really busy with my main work) and somehow it just didn't gel with me, I wasn't bought in to my own brand and that showed in the way I was showing up.
I'm glad I quickly realised it and was able to rebrand and it was as if someone waved a magic wand (well I guess I did) as soon as I rebranded and redesigned my own website to show more of my own personality suddenly my business took off again - and my side gig the one I loved so much suddenly became my main gig and I got booked out weeks and months in advance!
Perseverance really does pay off!
